Hassan Hadi Alquraishi from Iraq is a veterinary expert and left his country because of the war. He used to have a veterinary clinic and is specialized in providing medical care to horses and cattle.
He went first to Turkey and then to Greece in a smugglers boat. He continued his journey to Macedonia, went through the so-called Balkans route and arrived to Sweden where he has relatives. After spending two months in Sweden where he applied for Asylum he received a negative answer and was deported to Croatia. He decided to apply for asylum in Croatia a months ago and is now waiting for the second interview.
He is satisfied with the living conditions at the RCAS in Zagreb and thinks that Croatian people are very welcoming and friendly. He would love to be able to stay and work in Croatia and he started to explore possibilities to open a veterinary clinic. In the meantime, he volunteers and helps other migrants with translation and interpretation because he is fluent in English. He appreciates the support provided by IOM and the MoI and started to attend Croatian language classes.
