Abd El-Rakim left Syria with his pregnant wife and son because of the war and insecurity. Their journey was long and exhausting, and included smuggling in an over-crowded boat. They managed to reach Greece, and continued their journey to Switzerland where they applied for asylum. Soon after they were denied asylum and deported to Croatia.

They applied for asylum in Croatia and are waiting for the reply. They just arrived some ten days ago and look forward to joining language classes and other activities implemented by IOM, including culture orientation classes.

They are still uncertain about their future and because of this they feel insecure. They hope they will be given a chance to work and live in Croatia.
