Meeting TCN students in Croatia
As part of the project “Technical Support for the Integration of Third Country Nationals in Croatia”, this time we had the opportunity to learn about the position of foreign students in Zagreb. Their experiences, after they decided to acquire additional education outside their country of origin, will greatly help in making a final review of the situation and recommendations for future steps regarding the improvement of the position of all third country nationals in Croatia.
Thanks to the program of the Indonesian government for studying abroad, Larasati and Andi chose to spend part of their student life in Croatia out of all the offered countries. Both study at Croatian Studies in Zagreb. Larasati decided to attend courses related to social welfare, while Andi decided to enroll in those related to economics and management which will help her further in her study of meteorology and atmospheric sciences.
As they say, it would be more practical if there was one central place where all foreign students could do most of the work related to all the necessary documentation for studying and staying (Immigration office). Given that they come from a very different culture, they expected to have more problems navigating everyday life, however, they managed to adapt to the conditions in Croatia very quickly.
Dinmukhamed Beisenov had the desire to continue his studies somewhere in the EU after his education in Kazakhstan. He personally researched further on the Internet and decided to apply to RIT Croatia, where he was soon accepted, so today he is already in the first year of new media design studies where he plans to stay. Fortunately, in carrying out all the necessary administrative procedures regarding documents and other needs, he had the help of an advisor from his studies, without whom many things would have seemed impossible for someone coming from a country with different rules and culture.
