IOM participates in “Gender Perspectives and Security in South Eastern Europe” conference

The purpose of this two-day conference that was held from 6-8 April 2016 in Rakitje, Croatia was to provide a platform to address gender equality topics. Its specific aim was to monitor the progress made with respect to the UN Security Resolution (UNSCR) 1325 that deals with the influence of war on women and girls.

The 2016 conference purpose is threefold: to convene relevant subject matter expert forum, to support professional development of the two key execution groups involved in the national plan implementation and to suggest specific tool for the future monitoring of the implementation of the UNSCR 1325.

35 representatives from the security sector institutions, national gender focal points and experts working on gender training participated in the conference.

On this occasion Ms. Nermina Komarić, IOM’s European Migration Network National Focal Point Coordinator made a presentation on “Gender and Migration”.

Ms. Komarić emphasized the legal framework and gender issues related to migration policy.
