IOM organized trainings in 8 Croatian cities as part of the TRAIN4M&H project

As part of the TRAIN4M&H project, founded by the European Union, IOM organized trainings for first-line health professionals and law enforcement officers working at local level with migrants and refugees on migrants’ and refugees’ health in 6 Croatian cities.  These trainings were successfully held in Vukovar, Slavonski Brod, Sisak, Karlovac, Gospić and Delnice from 7 February to 12 April 2019.

Trainings were conducted by experienced Croatian Red Cross, HGSS and IOM speakers to enable health professionals, police officers and other professionals working with migrants to develop key skills to work with migrants within healthcare. This healthcare workshop on migration for health professionals, police officers and social workers also aimed to build the capacity of national professionals on issues to be addressed.

Additonal 2 traingings, founded by Croatian Ministry of Interior, on first aid in non-urban settings  were organized for border police officers in Vinkovci on 13/14 June and Topusko on 27/28 June 2019 . The aim of this action was to build the capacity of border police officers in providing first aid to non urban areas, by organizing and implementing two specialized trainings in two geographic areas in Croatia bordering Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In order to deal with current migration trends, European countries develop policies and plans to better define their role in providing support to migrants entering Europe. In line with the objectives of the EU Action Plan on the Integration of Third-Country Nationals, EU-DG SANTE / Chafe is committed to actions aimed at guaranteeing access to relevant basic services such as health care, including "Provision of training for healthcare professionals, police officers and other organizations working with migrants and refugees at the local level "- TRAIN4M & H, coordinated by GIZ in collaboration with IOM, the Istituto Superiore di Sanità (ISS), the Institute of Public Health of the University of Porto (ISPUP), the Department of Public Health and Diseases Infectious - University Sapienza Roma is the Association of Schools of Public Health in the European Region (ASPHER).
