2017-2018 European Migration Network (EMN) National Contact Point for Croatia

The European Migration Network (EMN) National Contact Point for Croatia (HR EMN NCP) project worth EUR 137,500 is founded through the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF) of the European Union (80%) and by the Croatian Ministry of Interior (20%) . The project started on 12th March 2015 under IOM’s office for Croatia. It was established to provide up-to-date and reliable information on migration and asylum for institutions of the European Union (EU) and its Member States, with the aim to inform policymaking and facilitate practical cooperation.

The European Commission DG Migration and Home Affairs coordinates EMN work in cooperation with national contact points (EMN NCPs), which are appointed in each member state.  The NCP’s are responsible for developing and coordinating a national network and to support the government in the work of policy-making, legislation development, research, and monitoring migration statistics.

The main objective of EMN is to respond to the information needs at the national and European level through: Reports, Studies, Ad-Hoc Queries, Policy Briefs and the EMN Bulletin and Glossary. It collects documents, data and information held or collected at the national and EU level to further analyze and synthesize information and improve its comparability at EU level. This is done in order to contribute to evidence-based policymaking. Dissemination of information takes place primarily via DG Migration and Home Affairs - EMN webpage and EMN’s publications.

Activities include responding fast and effectively to short-term needs and working with EU and national policymakers to ensure outcomes and outputs are drafted in a format which is policy relevant and readily available.

The main body of the EMN is a Steering Board which ensures that the EMN’s work is aligned with the EMN main objectives EU political priorities.
