Re-HEALTH project "Support to Member States under particular migratory pressure in their response to health related challenges"
On 13 January 2016 the European Commission Directorate-General for Health & Food Safety (DG SANTE) has officially announced the signature of the project ‘Re-HEALTH - Support Member States under particular migratory pressure in their response to health related challenges’. This €1 million project of a total €5.6 million, granted through the Consumers, Health and Food Executive Agency (CHAFEA) is part of the actions to support EU Member States (MS) under particular migratory pressure under the EU 3rd Health Programme.
The action intents to provide support to MS under migratory pressure and to NGOs working in those MS to help address the health related issues of arriving migrants by:
- establishing links between the transit and reception centres and the health systems;
- making use of the already established Handbook and Personal Health Record (PHR) to check the health status/health needs of the arriving refugees and other migrants;
- ensuring that health assessments and preventive measures are provided (including vaccination), taking into account the needs of children and other vulnerable groups;
- ensuring that data initially collected in the handbook are kept in an online database platform in order to be available at the destination country.
The project encompasses four EU MSs (Greece, Croatia, Italy and Slovenia) and the expected duration is 12 months, with an initial pilot period of two months and 10 months of implementation.
